NATIONAL TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL PROGRAMME

The National TB Control Programme (NTP) was existing in India since 1962. However, comprehensive review of the NTP in 1992 found that the programme had not achieved its aims & targets.  The programme was thoroughly revised and RNTCP came into being in 1997 in cooperating the components of the Internationally recommended DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) strategy for the control of Tuberculosis. Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme was implemented in a phased manner throughout  the country from the year 1997. RNTCP has been operationalized in Goa from September 2004.
